a miami swim week collection
in late 2025, steven from @_shvisions reached out to skinikinis and asked if we would be participating in any events during miami swim week 2026. while we weren't planning any shows, the conversation quickly shifted toward creating something together.
instead of a runway, we decided to build a collection specifically for content creation during miami swim week. what began as a small project featuring four or five models would eventually grow into an eleven model collaboration inspired by the neon energy of miami.
building the vision
early on, we knew we wanted the collection to feel like a modern version of classic miami. the inspiration came from retrowave visuals, miami vice, neon lights, and the colors that define south florida after dark.
purples, blues, and pinks became the foundation of the project.
those colors guided every decision that followed, from the fabrics we selected to the accessories and branding details.
choosing the fabrics
to make the colors stand out under the miami sun, metallic foil fabrics were selected for the collection along with a my personal favorite, a retro style multi-colored striped fabric.
foil fabrics are something i normally try to avoid. while they create an incredible shine, the foil can develop small cracks when stretched. however, for this project, the look was worth the risk.
to balance style and comfort, most of the bikinis were made with the foil fabrics while the string ties remained black. the black fabric is softer, more comfortable, and helped frame the colors of the suits.
details matter
-
creating the logo
every collaboration deserves its own identity.
for this project, we wanted the branding to feel as unique as the collection itself. inspired by retrowave and miami vice theme, the logo became the visual centerpiece of the project and was used across shirts, stickers, packaging, promotional materials, and social media teasers leading up to miami swim week.
once the logos were printed and the branding was finalized, we started teasing the collaboration on instagram and giving people their first look at what was coming.
-
string ties
while developing the branding, i also decided to make a small change to one of skinikinis' signature details. normally, every skinikini features the classic orange skinikinis logo on the string ties. for this collaboration, we wanted the logos to feel like part of the collection rather than stand apart from it.
around the same time, i received a dual-color purple and red silk pla filament that matched the fabrics perfectly. the result was a custom colored skinikinis logo designed exclusively for the collaboration.
-
custom packaging
the collaboration extended beyond the suits themselves.
skinikinis normally arrive in our signature orange reusable vinyl bags. for this project, we wanted the packaging to feel like part of the collection.
the orange bags were replaced with black vinyl bags featuring fluorescent skinikinis and _shvisions branding inspired by the same colors used throughout the collection.
it was one more way to make the collaboration feel unique from start to finish.
curating the collection
with the fabrics selected, it was time to choose the styles.
i created several concepts and mockups using fabric photos so potential models could visualize the final designs before committing to the project.
at this stage, only tatiana [@thicky_tatiana] and alexa [@atcollective] had officially joined the collaboration. while i worked on designs, steven began reaching out to models through instagram, with skinikinis joining the search shortly after.
the roster slowly began to grow.
sara [@saralevs] confirmed next, followed by isla [@islatuya]. since isla prefers smaller bikini styles, i designed a completely new top with her in mind.
crop tops
steven suggested adding crop tops to the collection. the shirts would create additional looks, give models more content opportunities, and provide flexibility during shoots.
normally, we favor relaxed crop tops that can easily be thrown over a bikini. steven liked the fitted crops, so we asked the models which style they liked best.
the fitted crop tops won and they looked exactly as good as we hoped.
from five models to eleven
what started as a four to five-model project continued to grow.
samantha [@samantha_mieles] and makayla [@makaylaaray_] joined next, bringing the count to six confirmed models.
two more models confirmed shortly afterward, and at that point, we realized the collaboration had outgrown the original plan and expanded the project to ten models.
madison [@madisonngabrielleee] joined next, followed by jada [@jadafromstatefarm].
technically, we had already reached our limit. but by the end of april, kelse [@kelsedoll.xo] officially confirmed as well. she is a skinikini vixin, and supporting our vixins has always been part of what skinikinis is about.
while a few models were ultimately unable to attend, niaps [@niapsspain] joined the project. and just hours before steven had to fly back home, he was able to connect with maii [@only.maii] for some last-minute shots, ending the trip on a high note (besides steven's gimbal getting destroyed by a rogue wave).
more to come...
